| KITE launches Oil and Gas Sector Research & Advocacy Project |
|
Oil and Gas are essential and high-value commodities for both industrialized and developing country and thus are resources highly coveted by all non-petroleum producing countries. Any new discoveries of oil and gas reserves in commercial quantities are therefore viewed largely as a ‘blessing’ because such reserves represent potential financial windfall that can be used to create major opportunities. On the flip side however, the world is replete with instances where oil and gas booms have rather tended to create a myriad of problems such as economic distortions, social and political unrest, and environmental degradation in developing countries; resulting in the so-called ‘resource curse’. It is against this background that the Oil and Gas Sector Research and Advocacy Project (OGSRAP) has been developed by KITE, with and on behalf of the Oil and Gas Stakeholders Network (OGSN), to work with the Ghanaian legislature and other stakeholders to promote the institutionalization and practice of the ideals of good governance in the fledgling oil and gas sector.
