| KITE SUCCESSFULLY HOSTS DEVELOPMENT ACTORS |
|
KITE successfully hosted an “Energy and Development Partners’ Forum” at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Monday, June 1, 2009. The purpose of the “Energy and Development Partners’ Forum” was to announce a KITE-led initiative entitled “Energy for Development (E4D) Action Initiative” to share thoughts on the initiative with stakeholders and solicit their input and partnership for its implementation. The forum was chaired by Sunil Mathrani from the World Bank Country Office and discussed the current energy issues that were impacting development in our nation in order to help establish the wider context within which this intervention was being initiated. Why such an intervention and why KITE? The goal of the “Energy for Development Action Initiative” is to provide local leadership and a vehicle for contributing to improved performance in the energy and development sectors. As well, KITE hoped to facilitate discussion and knowledge sharing and ideas that fostered further socio-economic development. The initiative has evolved from KITE’s passion to see consistent and sustained effort in dealing with the many solvable energy challenges that seem to perpetually plague our nation. Over the past 10 years working in the energy and development sectors, KITE has identified a number of issues, some of which are significant but most are minor and could be easily addressed. In our opinion, many of these minor and solvable issues can only be dealt with if consistent effort is made to follow-up with and demand action from the responsible institutions and individuals. In line with this, the Energy for Sustainable Development (E4SD) Action Initiative will hold annual stakeholders meetings and follow-up with, responsible stakeholders, institutions and individuals for necessary action. KITE is aware that the challenges facing the Energy and Development sectors will not be achieved overnight but we believe that significant progress can be made through local ownership, international partnerships, broad collaborations and consistent effort. KITE seeks input for designing this initiative as well as a commitment from present and future partners. KITE looks forward to partnering with you in this effort |
